There are lots of things to do in Scottsdale's Sonoran Desert, whether you're a diehard adventure seeker or prefer a more low-key vacation to enjoy nature. Here are some activities in the Sonoran Desert that are sure to please.
Hiking is one of the best ways to get up close and personal with the Sonoran Desert's magnificence. The McDowell Sonoran Preserve near Scottsdale has 225 miles of shared-use trails, ranging from casual strolls on ADA-approved roads to difficult summit climbs deep in the McDowell Mountains. Keep an eye out for towering saguaro cactus, lacy mesquite trees, Gambel's quail, geckos, and other flora and fauna on each trail you explore. In addition to the Preserve, Pinnacle Peak Park, McDowell Mountain Regional Park, and Camelback Mountain are all fantastic spots to hike in Scottsdale (this last one is recommended for healthy, experienced hikers only). Before you embark on your journey, be sure you have everything you need.
